UNDP/UNEP / WRI Readiness Programme

The GCF Readiness Programme in Kenya was launched on the September 2016 and aims at supporting Kenya in being GCF ready. The programme will contribute towards strengthening the country’s national capacity to effectively and efficiently plan for, access, manage, deploy and monitor climate financing in particular from the GCF.  This Readiness Program targets two important aspects of the GCF approach; access to funds and private sector engagement, both of which requires significant preparatory work before GCF financing. The Programme has three components being implemented by WRI, UNEP and UNDP.

The key achievements of the Programme include:

  • Fast-tracking the accreditation of KCB
  • Project pipeline developments – supported the development of 2 projects proposals by IUCN and NEMA to be submitted to the GCF in February 2018
  • Capacity building for counties
  • Strengthening the capacity of the NDA through trainings and procurement of furnitures and equipment
